The Esopus Creek Conservancy (ECC) is located in Saugerties, New York, a Hudson Valley town bordering
the Hudson River and the Catskill Mountains, one hundred miles north of
New York City. While Saugerties is their home base, their purpose extends beyond Saugerties' boundaries and involves protecting the Esopus Creek watershed.
Established in July 2003 as a nonprofit corporation, ECC is among
the newest land trusts in the State of New York. Working with the
Catskill Center for Conservation and Development and enjoying
remarkable private and public support, they have acquired a 156-acre
natural environment. The property shares a mile of shoreline with the
upper Esopus Creek in Saugerties. Its name - Esopus Bend Nature
Preserve.
That's just the beginning. Going forward, the Conservancy will provide
public access to the preserve, create hiking trails and offer
educational programs. Working with landowners and other environmental
groups, they support the protection of additional environmentally
sensitive properties.
The Esopus Creek Conservancy welcomes, indeed encourages, your involvement and support.
