Friends of Historic Saugerties Presents:

Falling Waters:  The Genealogy of a House and Its “Who’s Who” of Family and Local History.

Local history enthusiast Peigi Mulligan peels back the siding on Falling Waters, also known as St. Joseph’s Villa, located at the end of Spaulding Lane, Saugerties (at the North end of Scenic Hudson's Falling Waters Preserve) to reveal how a stone house dating to ca. 1760 has evolved over time. Over the years, many additions, including a Chapel and dormitory, have been built although much of the original structure remains if you know where to look.

Peel back the ownership of the land from the Meales & Hayes Patent of 1687 through at least 10 families to the current owners, the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill.  Peigi will talk about the history of the house and share some local history informed by her study of the families who lived there.

Peigi Mulligan is a member of the Saugerties Historical Preservation Commission, and part of an informal history group who meet regularly at The Lamb Center. She contributes information to the “I Like Saugerties”, “Saugerties American Legion Post”, and “The Veterans History Museum of Saugerties” FB pages, and has contributed articles on history to the Saugerties Times and The Post Star.  She has a personal connection to the Dominican Sisters property through her husband Pat who was the primary caretaker of all the property from Barclay Heights to Glasco for 25 years.

All Friends of Historic Saugerties talks are free and open to anyone who is interested in history.  Seating is limited.
